Direct Content Management (DCM)

Direct Content Management (DCM) is a service from HomeLink Computer Services which allows a client to make changes to the content areas on their custom templated website. Our code can be "dropped in" to an existing templated website and then the web site can be edited online by any authorized users.

Direct Content Management (DCM)A demo exists at: http://hlcs.us/dcm/demo/

Before logging in, the user will see the pages as they appear to the world.

To log in, manually navigate to: http://hlcs.us/dcm/demo/edit
The credentials are:

  • Username: demo
  • Password: demo

Note: This demo may be reset from time to time, erasing user changes. This is only because it is a demo and is designed to show how a new site with DCM will function.

After logging in, the pages have an extra header with an Edit button. Clicking the Edit button make the content block editable.

After making changes to the content with the editor, the user can click Publish to save the changes and view the newly edited page. Alternatively, the user can click Cancel to discard any changes made since the last save.

If the user clicks the editor's save button, then the page will be saved and published, but the user will stay on the editor page.

To log out, close the browser.

Saved changes are stored as a revision that can be accessed via the History list. For example, suppose a user has made several changes to a page to advertise a limited-time promotion. After the promotion, the user wants to remove references to the promotion from the page. The user can simply choose a past revision from the history list and republish it rather than working from the current revision and manually erasing all promotion related content.

Can I use DCM on my web site?

To be used on a particular website, DCM must be built into the site. For new sites, this is generally easy. For existing sites, building DCM into your site may very well be possible. Please contact us to find out for your site.

What can I edit with DCM?

DCM is designed to edit "blocks" on existing pages. These blocks are specified when DCM is built into the site by our web development team.

Do I have to host with HLCS to use DCM?

Yes, DCM can only be used by clients who are hosting their website on an HLCS server.

What does it cost?

After DCM is integrated into a new or existing website, the periodic cost is $360/yr. However, contact us now about our introductory offer.

Does DCM make sense for me?

If you need to make small but frequent changes to your site, such as updating dates or prices, then you could save money by using DCM and making the changes yourself.

Contact us today to see how our DCM can work for you.
